Our partner, a Foundation, works to revive rural architecture, textiles and ancient skills that are disappearing in southern India. It works to empower women in rural villages to reinvent and update these skills in partnership with design schools. In the past, making kottans was a pastime for village women, and they were traditionally used to give gifts at weddings or traditional celebrations.  With the advent of plastic, this craft has disappeared, and the foundation is reviving it while offering income opportunities to very poor rural populations.
