Our partner, a Foundation works for the revival of rural architecture, textiles and ancient know-how endangered in southern India. She works to empower women in rural villages to reinvent and update these skills in partnership with design schools. In the past, making kottans was the pastime of village women and these were traditionally used as gifts at weddings or traditional festivals. With the arrival of plastic, this craft disappeared, the foundation is bringing it back to life while offering income opportunities to very poor rural populations.
